Weekly Thursday Night Heron Watch

June 22, 2017 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Delaware City Waterfront

LBHEEvery Thursday night, April through July, join the ABA birding host Jimmy Warren and take in the gathering dusk together on the Delaware City Waterfront. Each night hundreds of herons (Great Blues, Little Blues, egrets, and others) pass right by and over town, as they wing their way back to Pea Patch Island. Joining a ABA Heron Watch is a great way to bone up on your flying Heron id skills as well as enjoy the company of new and old friends. Pea Patch Island is famous as the home of Fort Delaware, but for more than a century has also been one of the country’s largest heronries, hosting thousands of nesting herons. Every afternoon, in the waning daylight hours there is a steady procession of these elegant waders moving along the river. Who knows what surprises the winds will bring! Come join us to take in the spectacle and grab a beer or some food in town before or after.
