Wilson’s Snipe

As spring unfolds the marshes fill with the sound of birds. April is a superb time to seek out marsh specialties, as the various species that pack into the rank wetlands jockey for territories and display for potential mates. Red-winged Blackbirds are conspicuous, and Marsh Wrens, and Common Yellowthroats abound. By the end of April we may see the first Yellow Warblers returning, and secretive species like the Sora, the Virginia Rail and others are even encountered on occasion.
